Careful Words

Proverbs 15

15:1 - A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. - The footnote in this Bible says, “Anger is removed by a gentle response, but a heated response fuels the flame.” That certainly is true. When you don’t mirror the anger of another person, it calms the situation and the anger subsides. Gentleness is the anger diffuser. J

15:2 - The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

- A wise person considers their words carefully. A foolish person speaks without thinking.

15:8 - The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

- The footnote in this Bible says, “The best that the wicked can offer God religiously is completely rejected.” To me, it is like when a celebrity or someone of high standing gives just to get the recognition, or when a politician who has no regard for God’s laws and then goes to, or gives, to a church solely to attain favor in the eyes of voters. The Lord wants giving to come from a good heart that loves the Lord. If you’re giving just to get recognition, or some kind of benefit, then that is the type of gift that the Lord doesn’t want.

15:12 - A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

- Someone who doesn’t want to know the truth isn’t going to be open to it. In fact, they will even mock and scorn you. Sometimes, you just got to leave them alone.

15:13 - A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

- The very things that you feel in your heart is what’s going to show on your face, and in your life. If you harbor bitterness, rage, and ill will towards others, you’re going to look, feel, and behave that way. But, if you have joy, peace, contentment, and love in your heart, that will also show on your face, and in the way you live and behave. When you see a person’s actions, you can better guess at what’s in their heart. That’s the best way to find out how to love and help them too.

15:16 - Better is little with the fear of the Lord, than great treasure and trouble therewith.

- It’s better to be poor, and have the Lord in you heart, than to have great wealth and a troubled soul. Spiritual wealth is far more valuable and wonderful than material wealth.

15:17 - Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

- It’s kind of like “A Christmas Carol.” The Cratchits had very little for their Christmas dinner, but they more to feed their souls than what Scrooge had. Scrooge had all the money he wanted to meet every need of his, but he had nothing to meet the need of his heart, until he finally made that change towards the end. Then, we see how his joy brought others joy as well and it’s just an amazing thing to see contagious joy! J

15:18 - A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife

. - This goes back to the first verse. Patience and understanding prevails, and puts out the flames of wrath.

15:19 - The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

- Yeah, this verse is for me. I know I can be lazy sometimes. That is definitely something I want to change. Laziness is its own obstacle. But, productivity will be its own reward.

15:23 - A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

- Wow! I like this one! It’s truly a great thing when just the right thing gets said at just the perfect time. There have been times where someone has said something so sweet that I just really needed to hear at that moment. Likewise, there have been times where I have said something to make someone feel better too. Don’t you just love that feeling?

15:24 - They way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

- Simply put, Jesus is the way. He is our ticket to heaven, and our rescue from hell.

15:27 - He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

- Greed will be your undoing. If you are irresponsible with your money, your whole family pays for it. If you spend and save wisely, you are definitely wise.

15:28 - The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

- Something that is careful of what they say, and also how and when, is wise. Those that just blurt out without care for anyone’s feelings, isn’t so wise.

15:29 - The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

- It’s like a line from Little House on the Prairie. In one episode, the pastor tells Laura, “The closer you are to God, the more likely he is to listen."

God bless all who read this!

Cheers to Good Health

Well, I have been dancing away! :) The scale hasn't shown any change, so far, but I know nothing happens overnight. Well, unless you count the overnight pains in your feet and lower back from stomping and jumping. Ha ha. I don't mind it though. I will get used to it, and it's all worth it. Plus, I really do enjoy it, being that it's also a game. Like I have said before, I like to be able to "conquer" and master games, so this may very well be the exercise that I'll stick with really well.

Since I've been doing this, I've just been praying that God will help me with my weight loss, and health. I'm also praying that he will help me to make the best decisions, and teach me how to make a plan, but not just for this, for everything. I'm not the most organized person, but I would like to be.

I can definitely see how God is helping me. Yesterday, and today, I have been keeping a mental log of the foods I have eaten and the calories that they have, in order to really make the best decisions. It sort of keeps me accountable that way, and helps me to really think through my food choices before I just dive into something and pig out. Before I have eaten anything, I have looked at the labels a little more closely to read about the calories, serving sizes, and ingredients. Like today, for example, I looked and saw that just ONE pop tart has 200 calories! And that is just for ONE! We all know that they put TWO in that little package, and who among us just eats the one? LOL So, you're talking about using up 400 calories if you eat the both of them.

Well, I ate probably 3/4 of one, so that's about 150-200 right there. I gave some to my little girl, because she was going nuts watching me eat it without sharing, and I gave the other one to my husband who was home on his lunch break. He's the one that eats those anyways. I only have one once in a blue moon. I don't know how he can eat those every day. They are a little too sweet sometimes.

Anyways, just being conscious and cautious about my decisions is helping me to make better choices. It certainly did when I went shopping for food today. I did my best to pick things that were good, and avoid the bad foods so I could have a "no fail environment." "You can't eat what's not there," Dr. Phil says. ;) He's right. I won't eat stuff that will sabotage myself if I don't buy it to begin with.

So, I just finished a serving of carrot sticks, with a half of a serving of lite ranch dressing. So, that right there was only 70 calories. MUCH BETTER! Less calories, more filling, and MORE nutritious! Once my body gets over the craving phase, I won't want bad foods anymore. It's like with milk....I can only drink skim. I can't stand other kinds of milk. I guess what I am wondering is how long it takes for a good habit to replace a bad one and be a staple of your life.

I know this is a weird blog entry, but it's one of my occasional "just me" type of entries. Still, I hope it helps someone. God really does help you, even in the stuff you wouldn't really think of connecting him with. I mean, you don't normally think of God saying, "Don't eat that cookie." ;) Though, as I was shopping today, when I saw things I knew wouldn't help my goals, I felt him nudging me, gently, to keep on moving and to choose things that he wants for my body to be nourished on.

So, cheers to good health, and may God continue to aid me, and everyone else, who is striving to become healthier! God bless all who read this!

Behind the Scenes

If anyone has ever watched the bonus features on a DVD movie, then they will know what I mean when I say a LOT goes into making a movie!! It's especially true when you got a movie like "The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

When someone makes a movie, there is a LOT of planning and meticulous details to think about. You have to have the sets, lights, music, costumes, make-up, effects, actors, and all the research and know-how. You also need a special team to undertake all the numerous tasks that there are.

Anyways, we got the special four disc edition of Narnia for Christmas (which I HIGHLY recommend!). Today, I watched the disc that had all the extra stuff. It played the whole movie, while they explained about all the stuff they did to make the scenes like they were, and showed story boards, effects, and behind the scenes stuff. It was facinating!

As I watched I was just thinking to myself how complicated it all looked. Endless amounts of attention had to be paid to such details that the viewing audience never thinks of. For a movie to be successful, it has to be believable and well-made, and that only happens when you have a team working their hardest to make it accurate. So, they spend countless dollars and hours of research and time in making a movie that will only last 1-2 hours. But, the end product is worth it.

You might be wondering what I am getting at. I promise you, there is a point, and here it is:

When I was watching all their tedious work, down to every color, fabric, set, and detail, I was thinking about how it takes all those people so much work to complete something so grand. Movies don't make themselves, it is PEOPLE who have to make them.

Likewise, this world didn't get made by itself. GOD had to make it. If a MOVIE is THAT complex, my gosh, how much MORE complex is the whole WORLD and everything in it??! Yeah. Kind of makes you go "hey, whoa!" doesn't it?

Even when they were animating the lion for the film, they said there were over 14,000 controls to move the animated lion....700 controls were for the face alone!

Now, think about every single aspect of the human body, or any living breathing organism for that matter. You got all sorts of body systems working together simultaneously to make up one being. Isn't it a wonder how it all works?! Now, do you think that any human or living being just "happened" from a big bang and "evolved" into this WHOLE WORLD?? Um, no. That's IMPOSSIBLE!! This world is FULL of intricate details. And, just as we see in the "behind the scenes" stuff, no great thing comes about by itself. It takes a great designer to create what you see on screen, just as it takes a GREAT CREATOR to design what is on earth.

One final thought before I close. Even a movie as grand and as powerful as Narnia will still have its flaws. Humans aren't perfect, and there is always room for error. I'm sure there were things that went wrong, and whether the audience knows it or sees it, who knows. But, I do know one thing. It took HUNDREDS of people to make a 2 hour movie over a long period of time. It took God the simple sound of his voice to make all that you see here. Ponder that one! God bless all who read this!

Dance Praise

Many of you have probably seen those dance games where you step on the arrows and dance to some music. Some people have even lost weight doing that.

Well, that's what I'm banking on! :) The other day, I bought "Dance Praise," which is the dance pad game with Christian music. I had always wanted one, but never got one because I wasn't fond of the secular music. But, now that they make one with Christian music, I seized the opportunity!

It is quite fun, and I enjoy it! The game itself even has an exerise option to show you how many calories you burn and stuff.

So, in addition to pilates, this will be my cardio, and what better way to get it than this?! This is something that I don't think I will get bored with. LOL The key to exercising is to make it fun, so you stick with it. This is DEFINITELY fun! I can dance, move, sing, and praise the Lord all at the same time! I LOVE IT!

So, here's to dancing myself slim, and the accomplishment of my health goals this coming year. Hopefully, I will be a much slimmer me by this time next year. :) So, anyone going for these same types of goals, I say go for it! I support you! Anyone wanting to support me, I welcome it too! Thanks!

Forever Christmas

Well, it's after midnight. I've been on here for quite a while now, just talking to people on IM and sending Christmas comments to many of my friends. As I do this, I look around me and realize that I've got a mess in my sink, my living room, hampers, and in my inboxes that haven't been touched. But, that makes me happy and humbled. Why? Because, a full sink means I have had food to eat. Exploding hampers mean that I have clothes on my back. A messy living room means that all of us have been blessed by the generosity of family who have given to us this Christmas. And, full inboxes means that I have friends (or solicitors that WANT to be my friend. LOL).

Anyways, I have an endless list of blessings. I just get awed by it when I think of all that God has given me. My list would roll out the door if I wrote them all down, and no blessing is too small to be counted!

Yeah, this may sound corny, but I count all of you as blessings to me. Every person I have ever met, whether they have meant harm or good, has been a blessing to me. They have made me who I am in one way or another, and I am grateful for that. All have served a purpose in my life and have given to me, things that have been essential to my growth, whether praise or persecution.

Among all these gifts, I am most grateful for the gift that was born in a stable over 2000 years ago. As long ago as that seems, it's really not that far away. The gift is still here today, and that gift is Jesus.

It's impossible to outgive God, but what I have, I will give back to Him; as an expression of my thanks for all he has given me. Being thankful is more than just saying the words, or a momentary sliver of reflection, it's an attitude and way of life.

Have you stopped to really count your blessings? How thankful and blessed are you? Stop, ponder, and be amazed! Every single thing around you is a gift. Look at every shirt, pair of jeans, piece of furniture, full dinner plate, number on the thermostat, and every single article you possess as you sit here and read these words on a computer screen that God has blessed you with to stay connected to your friends and family. It makes you feel so loved when you bask in the realization that God loves you and has been so kind to you.

It may be December 26th now, but Christmas isn't over. Christmas is year round. Everything it was on the day Jesus was born is what it still is today, and then some! Just because we pick one day to really think about and celebrate it, doesn't mean that it ends there. No. It's only the beginning! Carry Christmas all year through! Likewise, any holiday, whether it be Easter, Thanksgiving, or even a Birthday, they all have meaning and significance. They are to be cherished and treasured within our hearts so that the meanings they hold might last for always.

In closing, I would like to leave you with an awesome link that I got from Susan, who is on my top friends on my myspace list (www.myspace.com/missa_loves_the_lord )  as the "former call girl." She is one of the recent blessings that God has graced me with. Her testimony is amazing, and she has a heart of gold and such passion for the Lord. She had this on her page; a link contrasting Jesus and Santa Claus, and I just wanted to share it with you because it really touched me. It really puts a fresh look on Christmas. (Please click here: http://www.eakles.com/50better.html )

So, with all that being said, Merry Christmas everyone; today, tomorrow, and forever!! Hallelujah to the King! God bless all who read this!

All Wrapped Up

Well, I got everything wrapped up. Well, almost everything. I have two gifts yet to wrap,....as soon as I finish making them. LOL And, my brother's gift to wrap too. Then, I'm done. ;)

Tomorrow, we have a family gathering. Then, Sunday, we have another one, plus a Christmas Eve service (maybe even two if we get out of the first one in time to go to my Dad's church, which is my old home church). Then, we'll go back to my Dad's to open gifts with them. Oh yeah, by the way, my Dad is home from the hospital now. He is in some pain, and it's hard to get around, but I know that with a lot of prayers, and pain medication, he will be back to himself soon. :)

Then, on Christmas day, we go to my Aunt's, which I am looking forward to. Then, we will attempt to go to two different gatherings on my husband's side. LOL Gosh, our poor kids will be so tired from all this running around. I'm sure we will too. It's hard having divorced families. But, families are a blessing, no matter what. Even if they don't love you back.......but I won't go there. :) I love all of them no matter what! Therefore, I will continue to have the true Christmas spirit and have the light of Jesus within me, no matter who attempts to be a kill joy. Ah yes, there are some in "every family," I know. ;) Oh well. "Extra Grace Required." He he. Lord, help me!

Anyways, in case I don't post on here in a while, be safe and MERRY CHRISTMAS! As busy as we all are, let us all make sure to take some real time to sit down, pray, and thank God for his gift to us. Happy Birthday Jesus! God bless all who read this!

Quick Verses

Proverbs 14

14:6-7 - A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth. Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceives not in him the lips of knowledge. - It’s one thing for a person to ask for advice and wisdom. But if they are not open minded, especially to the instruction of the Lord, they aren’t going to grasp and understand what you will tell them. It may seem plain and simple to us, because we know the Lord and we know that following his ways are best, and bring us the best life possible. Those that do not know God don’t understand this. So, sometimes, you just got to let them go. You have “go from the presence” of those foolish people. It’s not saying you don’t care, but you can’t force someone make the right decision, no matter how insistent you are. We need to learn when to quit; myself included. Sometimes, you just have to walk away, and just pray.

14:15 - The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

- Being gullible can end up being unwise. It’s best to be cautious and check your facts before making a decision, especially a crucial one.

14:21 - He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.

- We are called to love others as God loves us. Hating doesn’t make anyone happy. Hating creates your own inner prison. Bitterness embalms and entombs your soul into calloused darkness. Forgiveness heals and opens the heart, and mercy abounds! Kindness, compassion, and mercy are the kind of virtues to put into practice.

14:26 - In the fear of the rod is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

- I definitely felt that today! God’s presence was with all of us in that hospital, and I felt such a peace. Weight was lifted off of my shoulders, and I was confident in the power of the Lord my God. He is my refuge, my counselor, my healer, my everything. He is the GREAT I AM!! HALLELUJAH!! Praise God! J

14:30 - A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. - A heart at peace is health for your body, and health for you life. But bitterness, anger, envy, and every fruit of the sinful nature decays your spirit and your life.

14:31 - He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoreth him hath mercy on the poor.

- Love as God loves us. God has mercy on us, so we need to have mercy on others. Loving others is an act of worship to God, and shows him that we truly love him by loving his people too.

14:34 - Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

- Are you listening America? Pride will be your downfall! The moral decline in this nation will bring us to ruin! However, if we return to our roots (to the Lord) we will be redeemed, and once again be the good respected nation we once were. Lord save us! God bless all who read this!

Surgery Success!

Thank you to everyone who prayed for my Dad. I know that all of our prayers paid off. The whole day was really something.

We had to get up really early. We dropped the kids off and then headed up to the hospital. We waited with my Dad to go in for the surgery (which affects his arm, but the actual incisions were in his back to repair some vertabrae).

In addition to my husband and I, my step-mom, brother, and the pastor and his wife were there. I think having all of us there to support him really meant a lot to my Dad. I can only recall one other time where he was really choked up. Dad doesn't typically show a lot of emotion, but he got us all dabbin' our eyes and using the kleenex. He let us know how much he appreciated all of us being there, and how much he loved us. It meant a lot to see the softer/vulnerable side of him. I felt like I really saw some deep emotions from him that really came from his heart. (Don't you just love it when men let go of the "macho" image and actually show what's in their heart?)

We all prayed together, and I just felt an awesome peace and a weight lifted off of my shoulders. And, after we left so he could get his surgery underway, I went to the little chapel to pray. I stayed there for most of the time, praying, and listening to Jeremy Camp music; just praising and praying to the Lord. I also had a Gideon Bible with me, and I read some awesome verses in Psalms 20 and 21 that really reassured me. God is truly awesome! He is a counselor, comforter, healer, and deliverer.

Dad made it through the surgery. We were all so relieved. Not that we thought the doctors couldn't do it or something, but because we were concerned about my Dad's breathing, because he has sleep apnea, and has weight issues. But, they said it would rather smoothly considering what needed to be done.

He will have to stay there a little longer than he thought he would, but as long as he is being taken care of, that is all that matters to me. :) I'm just grateful that God is always there for us. I could really feel his presence. So, thanks again to all my brothers and sisters who helped out in prayer. :) You are loved and appreciated. I thank you! oxoxoxo Keep praying for a good recovery, and that this will strengthen his faith, and help him to make good decisions for his health and weight in the future.

Smaller Doses

I love my new study Bible! :) It is no wonder that the KJV is the best translation. It goes deeper into the meaning of the Word because it's the most accurate translation. I'm getting so much out of it, and God is working on me a lot. I am really starting to rebound from all the "blah" that I've been feeling lately.

I also think you will be pleased to see some less lengthy entries. LOL The Lord keeps telling me that I don't have to be "all or nothing" all the time, and that I don't have to share EVERY LITTLE THING that is in my head. LOL So often, I feel that if I don't post the whole Proverb, or whatever, that I will be cheating someone out of something, or that I would be skipping over something important. But, it's not so. Everyone absorbs things at different times, (and is often better when it's SIMPLE and in small doses) and what God speaks to me doesn't mean that everyone has to hear it. They will hear it in their own time. However, when I do take time to study His Word, there will be things that I feel like I should share....which doesnt have to mean that it's the WHOLE THING that I have read. ;)

So, with that in mind, here are a FEW things that I decided to share from Proverbs 13. If you want to read the whole Proverb, you can go to www.biblegateway.com or read it from your own Bible. :) I pray for personal growth for everyone! God speaks to everyone differently! I pray you will be blessed!

13:3 - He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction. - A close watch needs to be kept on the tongue. Words are a fragile thing. Help me to strive for cautious speech. Give me the discernment and discipline I need to know when and when not to speak and do things.

13:4 - The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

13:7 - There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

- I like this verse. It illustrates the important fact that money doesn’t buy happiness. Riches are most often a burden. It brings about so many more worries and consumes you. It only makes you worry more about your money, what to do with it, who to give it to, how to invest it, etc. and all the hassles that come with wealth. It’s no wonder Hollywood is unhappy and there are stars in rehab or filing for bankruptcy. Yet, those that are poor have so much more. Sure, they have a different set of worries, but overall, they have peace. That is, you have peace if you have Christ. In addition to that, you can better appreciate and savor the simple things, and the things that have true value and significance; family, friends, and basic needs. No matter how burdened I feel, I know it will be ok, because God has never failed me, and I am truly blessed in so many ways! Even in times that things felt hopeless or rotten, I look back and can see it differently. It’s all part of a bigger plan that God has for me. It’s that same way with everyone. It’s all part of a greater vision.

13:11 - Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathered by labor shall increase.

- That’s got to be why so many Hollywood people crash and burn like they do. They get fame so fast that they squander it and their pot of gold becomes empty quickly. But, if they are modest, work hard, and act responsibly, they go a lot farther and earn respect. That the same principle we should all apply.

13:12 - Hope deferred maketh the heart sick, but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

- It’s hard to be patient; waiting and hoping for something that is so long in coming. But, when it does come, the joy of it is so wonderful and exciting. Then, it has all been worth it; as pertains to a future spouse, or event, and the second coming of Christ. Oh yeah. Won’t that be awesome?! I can’t wait for that “exploding joy.” J

13:13 - Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

- There are a lot of people that hate God and the Bible. They ignore it, mock it, and refuse to believe it. As for me, I know it, love it, and believe it. I fear for those who don’t.

13:14 - The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

- The Bible is a guide to help us. It leads us away from “the snares of death” by teaching and educating us in the ways of righteousness. Being wise enough to learn from the Word of God will truly save us, in more ways than one. J Praise God that I have a Bible. That alone is a gift. There are those that would give anything to have one, but are persecuted so strongly that they are hard to find.

13:20 - He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed

. - Be careful who you choose to be your friends. If you choose the wrong crowd, their trouble will end up being your trouble too. Don’t put yourself in compromising situations. You are who you hang out with. On a footnote, at the bottom of my Bible, it says “Wisdom, as well as folly, can be transferred by association.”

13:24 - He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

- Now HERE is a good one. Listen up parents. ;) This is one I really try to adhere to, and I know there are those that don’t like spanking, but right here, it shows the importance of it. If you LOVE your child, you will correct him and correct him promptly. That is what we do in our home, and for the most part, our kids are well behaved. People notice it also and compliment us on that all the time. Here is what the footnote on this verse says, which I find very helpful: “Love and discipline go together. The rod does not necessarily mean a spanking but simply whatever physical discipline is reasonable for the offense. The rod refers to a branch or switch. It is a small object that stings, but does not inflict serious bodily harm. The use of the rod for spanking is clearly taught in Scripture in preference to spanking with one’s hand (Proverbs 10:13; 22:15; 23:14, 15; 29:15). Hateth is used comparatively. The parent who does not discipline does not really love his child properly. While the popular adage: ‘Spare the rod, spoil the child’ is not a direct biblical quotation, it certainly expresses a biblical idea.”

God bless all who read this!! :)

Plans for Tonight and Tomorrow

I'm hoping to read in Proverbs again and post later on. Right now, I am just finishing up with some of my Christmas gifts. I'm almost done with all of that.

As much as I love the holidays, and the get-togethers, and everything, it will be nice once it is over. Being that we have divorced families, we have twice as many people to see, and places to go.

Tonight is going to be a fun night, though. :) My brother is visiting from South Carolina and he is at my Dad's house right now. We are all going over there tonight to have some pizza, and watch my Dad's "Classic." It's a tradition. Every year at Christmas time, we watch "Scrooge." It's one of my Dad's favorites. This is the version that has Albert Finney in it. Probably the best version there is. ;) (Albert Finney....... tremendous actor. You know, the guy that was Daddy Warbucks in the movie Annie.)

So, that's what we're doing tonight. Then, I suppose I will come home and work on more of my Christmas projects, post some Bible verses, and prepare for tomorrow. Tomorrow, we have to get up early, drop the kids off at the grandparents, and go to the hospital to support my Dad's surgery (on his arm). So, we'll be praying. If ya'll wanna pray too, it would be much appreciated. :)

Well, kudos for me for a short blog. LOL I'll be posting later! Pray for my Daddy, and pray for me, if you would. God bless you!

Good Words and Good Friends! :)

Ok, I think I'm getting back to my old self. I just have been out of it lately. Too much going on, but it will all be ok.

I think today's Proverb has especially helped me, and I read it in my new KJV study Bible that my Mom gave me for Christmas. :) Couldn't have gotten a better present! THANKS MOM!

Proverbs 12

12:1 - Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish. - Closed thinking definitely is a downfall. If you aren’t open enough to accept help and instruction from other wise people in your life, you are only hurting yourself. It goes both ways. Sometimes, I’m the stupid one, other times, I feel that the people I try and help are the stupid ones. LOL Well, not really “stupid,” just stubborn. Yeah, I can be stubborn too. Who isn’t? May we all be so wise as to listen and discern wisdom from God and others!

12:2 - A good man obtaineth favor of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

- The Lord knows everyone’s intentions. He rewards those that have good motives. God doesn’t reward the wicked.

12:3 - A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

- This speaks to me about foundation and character. A person of character and integrity, and one that would make a difference in the world, doesn’t establish their roots in evil ways. A person who seeks to make their mark on the world grounds their roots firmly into Christ. One who does isn’t easily uprooted. They remain firm, and steadfast. The wicked pass away, but those with a firm foundation stand forever. That’s who I want to be. J Lord, keep me grounded in you!

12:4 - A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

- I hope that I am a crown to my husband, and not rottenness in his bones. I love the word “virtuous.” It sounds rich, strong, and full. I want to be full of virtue. I want my husband, and God, to be proud of me. I never want to shame them. Lord, keep my character strong and “virtuous.” J

12:5 - The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

- The wisdom and good thoughts that spill out of one’s self, and other wise friends, are good. That is the kind of good stuff to listen to. Listening to the advice of people who don’t have the fruits of the Spirit inside isn’t going to help you any. When advice that doesn’t have the motivations and heart of God behind them, they will profit nothing. They are empty lies and deceptions.

12:6 - The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

- Good always overcomes evil. If someone is speaking something bad or distasteful, words of wisdom and discretion can overcome it, and even bring conviction. Good words are on the side of progress and healing.

12:7 - The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

- Amen! Good always wins out! Even if it seems hopeless at the time, and evil is running amok, have no fear! Good will always triumph in the end!

12:8 - A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

- Wisdom is valued and cherished. That’s the stuff that people remember and hold close; not empty words of filth or malicious intent.

12:9 - He that is despised and hath a servant, is better than he that honoreth himself, and lacketh bread

. - I like how the NIV puts it: “Better to be a nobody and yet have a servant than pretend to be somebody and have no food.” I don’t know how to say it better than that.

12:10 - A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

- A reminder that every living thing is important, and to value the lives and feelings of everyone: from beast to human. Sadly, it seems that this world values animals even more than they do humans. Not that animals aren’t worthy of care, but they are often treated with greater respect than human life is.

12:11 - He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followed vain persons is void of understanding.

- Hard work pays off and you reap what you sow.

12:12 - The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yielded fruit.

- It’s easy to want the wealth and prosperity of others sometimes. However, lusting after vain and self-absorbed people whose luxurious lives are their only comforts, isn’t going to make us any more prosperous or productive. True wealth is in the things that you can’t put a price on. In fact, I consider myself to be one of the richest people around. J I am so blessed!

12:13 - The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble

. - If you foolishly run your mouth, you’ll get yourself in trouble. However, if you choose your words wisely and think before you speak, you’ll save yourself from calamity.

12:14 - A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompense of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

- Words are like a boomerang. Speak good words, and good words come back. Likewise, speak bad words, and bad words come back. Keep the good words flowing!

12:15 - The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkenethunto counsel is wise.

- That’s for sure! It’s often better to listen to a wise person who can see outside of your situation. When you are in the eye of your own storm, you can’t clearly see your solution. That is why having good counsel is so imperative. Praise God for good friends! J Listen to those smart friends in your life. Don’t listen to your own wishful thinking or clever lies you try and tell yourself that blind you to your situation and give you false hope. Tell yourself the truth, and accept the truth from others! Yep. That goes for me too! J Can’t change what you don’t acknowledge!

12:16 - A fool’s wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame

. - Yeah. How many times does it take before one learns that losing your temper only makes a fool out of yourself? We’ve all done it, and yet, we don’t always learn from it. I’ve lost my cool before. Right here, however, it says that it’s better to just hold your tongue if you have to. Don’t lose your self-control and do something you regret. Now there’s a helpful tip for myself. ;)

12:17 - He that speaketh truth showed forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.

- Pretty self-explanatory. Truthfulness is good; lying is bad.

12:18 - There is that speaketh like the piercing of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

- I love this verse. It’s a reminder, to me, to be careful about how to use words. I can’t count the number of times I wanted to say something and didn’t. Words can definitely hurt, and you got to be careful with them. Mean words can wound a person, but good encouraging, and healing words, uplift and nourish the spirit. It all comes down to if you want to be a hurter or a healer. J I hope that next time a battle of words comes up, I will remember this verse and take the high road.

12:19 - The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

- The truth is what wins out. Lies are always exposed. They don’t stand for long.

12:20 - Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace is joy.

- Those with evil and selfish intent, of course, are going to be deceitful and unhappy. Those who are full of the fruit of the Spirit and are the peacemakers are, of course, full of joy. The fruit you bear shows the condition of your heart, and your intentions.

12:21 - There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

- What goes around comes around. You reap what you sow. If you expect the Lord to bless you, bless the Lord with your good attitude. If you live for yourself, then yourself with be the only company you have.

12:22 - Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight

. - It’s true. The Lord delights in the truth. If you think about it, so do we. I mean, who really enjoys the company of a liar?

12:23 - A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimed foolishness

. - I think this verse deals with discernment. There is no harm is sharing your wisdom with people, but it’s how and when you do it that counts. In fact, as I read this, I wonder about a few things. I mean, I write these blogs so others can read and learn too. But, maybe I should go about this differently. Maybe, I’m a fool. I talk too much, my writings are lengthy, and in an effort to make sure that I don’t leave anything out, I go overboard. God has constantly been prompting with “keep it simple,” and telling me to simplify my life. I’m hoping to understand and implement that more. Please, help me Lord! Perhaps, from now on, I can have better discernment about what to include and exclude from my blogs. Maybe, I can better learn how to make them shorter. It would be just as effective, if not more so. Dear Lord, help me with that!

12:24 - The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

- It’s the diligent and hard-working folk that prosper and rule. Should it be any surprise what kind of result you get when you don’t put forth an effort to get things done? Yep, myself included.

12:25 - Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

- Here in my new study Bible, it shows the word “anxiety” as pertains to the “heaviness in the heart,” and “depression” as pertains to “maketh it stoop.” It makes sense. Even the medical community notes that anxiety and depression go hand in hand. You seldom have one without the other. They are interlinked in a vicious cycle. The anxiety depresses you, and they you become anxious from your depression, etc. That is probably the cycle I am in right now. I haven’t been myself lately. I have been even more scatter-brained and disorganized amidst this holiday chaos. It’s probably why God is telling me to “simplify” all the more. He wants me to let go. Show me what it means, Lord. No matter what, I know you’ll get me through it all. You always have, and always will. J Your “good words” do make my heart glad. *Never underestimate the power of encouragement and kind words!*

12:26 - The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

- Choose your friends carefully. Don’t be seduced by wayward people.

12:27 - The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

- Make good use of the harvest of your labor. Don’t let it go to waste.

12:28 - In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

- Amen! Choose what is good; choose God! Choose him and have a full and wonderful life; and eternal life as well! God bless all who read this!

Personal Injury Laws; for the Heart.

God's timing never ceases to amaze me. I'm sure there are those of you that can relate. How many times have you gone to church with something on your mind, and then, the pastor just "happens" to be talking about that very thing you need help with? It's happened to me before, and it happened again today. However, it's more than just happenstance. Anyone that knows God also knows that this is something only he could have orchestrated.

You may have read my earlier blog where I mentioned that I had an upcoming situation where I would really need the Lord's help in dealing with an unmentioned "something." ;) I don't know that I will totally detail what that something is, because a someone could always "happen" upon it and read it. What I have learned today, though, is too important not to share, so if the person or persons that this situation involved happens to see it, then that's fine.

Now that I have said all that, I will get to the bulk of what I need to say. It regards church today. It was titled, "The Kingdom Firm 'Helping injured people for over 2000 years.'"

Everyone is familiar with personal injury lawyers and ads on tv. Our pastor used that to show us some things about how we work with others, socially, in life. Generally, we have a certain principle in this world that goes something like "If you do something for me, I'll do something for you." Also, "If you wrong me, than I have a right to wrong you back." But, of course, "Two wrongs don't make a right," and "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind," which is what he was trying to get at. He explained how Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:38-42 that we should "turn the other cheek."

Turning the other cheek is hard, especially if you feel someone deserves to be chewed out in return for whatever they have done to you. Our pastor illustrated this by his own experience. He told us a little story of how he was working with a construction crew, and one of the guys said, "Hey, little man, come here." I guess I never really thought of our pastor as all that short, but it struck a chord with him and he was pretty mad inside. So, he thought to himself, "If I'm little man, then you're the invisible man." Thus, he refused to really interact with that person.

Once again,  God's timing is perfect. Shortly before he was to preach this sermon, he said that sure enough, he had to work with the invisible man again. He could just feel the hardening of his heart when he realized this guy was on the job. He realized, though, that he had to talk things out with "invisible man." So, he did.

Just like the forward that I posted earlier on my blog about "Letting go," our pastor also had to let things go. He had to let go of the "personal injury" that "invisible man" inflicted on him, just as all of us should do also.

Everyone has difficult people in their lives, whether it be people that irritate, hurt, or hate you. Those can be very hard people to deal with. So, HOW do you deal with them? Well, as any personal injury lawyer will tell you, you've got "rights" and you deserve to know your rights. Here are the "Kingdom Bill of Rights" as our pastor put it:

  I. You have the right to remain vulnerable.

II. You have the right to give the shirt off your back.

III. You have the right to do more than is expected of you.

IV. You have the right to give graciously.

V. You have the right to step into the flow of God's Kingdom.

Eye opener isn't it? Probably not what you expected. It probably makes you roll your eyes and groan, as it did me momentarily.

So, what does all that mean? Well, to break it down a bit, it means that when someone behaves in such a way as to hurt you, you should remain vulnerable and neutral. That's a hard one, but it's the best road to take. It takes a lot more character to be silent then it does to run your mouth and fuel the fire. It's especially best because, generally, that is what the other person wants to do is to start something. And, if they can't get a reaction they want, it "puts out" that fire.

Remaining vulnerable drains the anger out. Proverbs 15:1 says this:

"A soft answer turneth away wrath; but grievous words stir up anger."

This kind of attitude and behavior heals. It also brings conviction on the hearts of those who are wronging you. That's why the Bible says in Romans 12:17-21:

"Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good."

Revenge and paybacks just keep the cycle going. LOVE stops the cycle. LOVE covers over a multitude of sins (Proverbs 10:12, Proverbs 17:9, 1 Peter 4:8).

The rest of the principles go hand in hand with the first. When we "give the shirt off our back," "do more than is expected of us," "give graciously," and "step in the flow of God's Kingdom," we are being peacemakers among ourselves. After all, God is merciful and gracous to us, even when we don't deserve it. Therefore, as hard as it is, we must do likewise. It also heaps the coals on their heads. It's hard to continue hating someone that is nice to you. ;)

Rick Warren once said that some people in our lives are EGR (Extra Grace Required). We all deal with people that take a little more patience and understanding. So, what I do to get me through it, is try to look at the heart.

The heart is the source. It's the communicator. That's why Jesus talks to our hearts. That's where the deepest feelings and thoughts are. So, when we look at a person's heart, we can better see what it is that shapes their good or bad behavior. Then, we can concentrate on the good things, and feel compassion for the bad in order to love them through the circumstance.

I think the biggest question in all of this is, "Do you have what it takes to love?" In a culture that abuses and overuses that word, it has lost it's real meaning. REAL love is unconditional and sacrificial, and not based on loving only those that love you back. The person and/or persons that have wronged me may or may not really love me back, but it doesn't matter to me. I am making a choice to love, because God loves me, and his love abounds and is freely given to me. Therefore, my love, forgiveness, and compassion must also about on my EGR's. ;)

I WILL overcome evil with good. I WON'T grow weary of doing good, even when I want to give up. I WILL continue to be God's ambassador. I REFUSE to let EGRs bullly or intimidate me.  I will be light; I will be love; and I WILL NOT let them make me bitter or angry, and change who I am. I choose LOVE! GOD BLESS ALL WHO READ THIS!!!!

"Let It Go!!!"

I got this forward today, and I HAD TO SHARE!! Don't miss out on this one!!

By T. D. Jakes

There are people who can walk away from you.

And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk
away from you: let them walk.
I don't want you to try to talk another person into
staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone.

When people can walk away from you let them walk.
Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left.

The bible said that, they came out from us
that it might be made manifest that they were not for
us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have
continued with us. [1 John 2:19]

People leave you because they are not joined to you.
And if they are not joined to you, you can't make them stay.

Let them go.

And it doesn't mean that they are a bad person it just means that their part in the story is over. And you've got
to know when people's part in your story is over so that you don't keep
trying to raise the dead.
You've got to know when it's dead.

You've got to know when it's over. Let me tell you
something. I've got the gift of good-bye. It's the tenth spiritual gift, I believe in good-bye. It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful, and I know whatever God means for me to have He'll give it to me. And if it takes too much sweat I don't need it. Stop begging people to stay.

Let them go!!

If you are holding on to something that doesn't belong to you and was never intended for your life,

then you need to......

LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to past hurts and pains ......

LET IT GO!!!

If someone can't treat you right, love you back, and
see your worth.....

LET IT GO!!!

If someone has angered you .

LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge......

LET IT GO!!!

If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction......

LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents

LET IT GO!!!

If you! u have a bad attitude.......

LET IT GO!!!

If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better......

LET IT GO!!!

If you're stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him......

LET IT GO!!!

If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship.......

LET IT GO!!!

If you keep trying to help someone who won't even try to help themselves......

LET IT GO!!!

If you're feeling depressed and stressed .........

LET IT GO!!!

If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself   and God is saying "take your hands off of it,"   then you need to......

LET IT GO!!!

Let the past be the past. Forget the former things. GOD is doing a new thing for 2007!!!

LET IT GO!!!

Get Right or Get Left .. think about it, and then .

LET IT GO!!!

"The Battle is the Lord's!"

During the next 60 seconds, Stop whatever you are
doing, and take this opportunity.

(Literally it is only ONE minute!)

All you have to do is the following:

You simply say "The Lords Prayer" for the person that
sent you this message:

The Lords Prayer

Our Father, who are in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever.

Amen.

Next, send this message to everyone you know. In a while, more people will have prayed for you and you would have obtained a lot of people praying for others!

Next, stop and think and appreciate God's power in
your life, for doing what you know is pleasing to Him.

If you are not ashamed to do this,
follow the instructions!

Jesus said,
If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before My Father"

If you are not ashamed, send this message...  only if you believe.

"Yes, I love my God. He is my fountain of
  Life and My Savior.

He Keeps me going day and night.   Without Him, I am no one.  But with Him, I can do everything,

Christ is my strength."   This is a simple test.

If you love God and you are not ashamed of all the
great things that He has done for you, send this to everyone you know, and the person that sent it to you!

God loves you and watches over you everyday.

The Righteous and the Wicked

Proverbs 11

11:1 - A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight. - Don’t cheat. Be honest.

11:2 - When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

- Prideful people will be brought down a peg or two. Those that are humble are the wise and respected ones.

11:3 - The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

- When you have the Lord to guide you, you have a true “blessed assurance.” Those that don’t follow the Lord will eventually destroy themselves; both in this life and the life to come.

11:4 - Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

- No matter how much money you have, it cannot buy you into heaven, or save you from hell. Only salvation in Jesus Christ can assure a place in heaven, and the escape of eternal punishment. GET SAVED, if you aren‘t already!!

11:5-6 - The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness

. - It comes down to those two choices. Choose Christ and you’re choosing life, or deny him and seal your own fate.

11:7-8 - When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth. The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

- Like they say, there are no u-hauls being pulled behind a hearse. You can’t take anything with you. Not earthly treasures anyways. The only thing that counts for anything in heaven are the untouchables; the legacy that you have left (the people you have helped, those that have accepted Christ because of you, etc.).

11:9 - An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

- Yes, we must be careful with our words, and never underestimate the power of a SINCERE and heartfelt “I’m sorry.” Be the wise one, and consider your words. I’m pointing the finger at myself too, because I know of an upcoming “event” when I will want to say something, but won’t. I will have to hold my tongue, and be the better person. Perhaps you’re curious to what I mean, but I don’t think I will divulge it. LOL It has nothing to do with any of you, so don’t worry. It’s “holiday” related. ;)

11:10-11 - When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

- I long for the days of rejoicing in this nation, if only everyone could get along, and the mouths of the corrupt could be silenced. And, on the flipside, if the mouths of the just and innocent could be heard. If not now, then I will look forward to it later in heaven.

11:12-15 - He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace. A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter. Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.

- Once again, the ability to be wise, courteous, and “hold one’s tongue” is implicated here. Lord, give me the strength to do this. I know it will be hard. Give me understanding, and just help me to remember that even though people may try to hurt me because of their own ignorance and hard hearts, I should still be kind, and not try to wound them back. I will “concealeth” the matter. ;) I just pray for peace and love, and that those that don’t know it will, through Christ, find it.

11:16-19 - A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches. The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh. The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward. As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

- May we all learn to value honor and true riches. May we all find the joy in being kind and merciful to others, through giving, stewardship, compassion, and love. Bring LIFE to your soul through your pursuits.

11:20-21 - They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight. Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

- Take the high road. Choose the good path. Choose salvation and deliverance.

11:22 - As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

- Wake up call!! Dress modestly ladies! “If you’re not in business, don’t advertise.” That doesn’t mean that you have to dress like a gal out of the 1800’s. Wear nice clothes, but for gosh sakes,…….COVER UP! ;)

11:23-24 - The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath. There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.

- Give freely, and the Lord will give back to you. Or, be a stingy miser like Scrooge and make yourself miserable, and bankrupt your soul.

11:25 - The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

- Give freely. Bless and refresh others, and you shall also be blessed and refreshed.

11:26-29 - He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it. He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him. He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

- Share with others. Seek and trust in the Lord. Don’t chase after foolish dreams. Just like this guy I seen on Dr. Phil who would gamble his paycheck away in order to “pay the bills.” Yeah right. You can’t pay the bills when you blew your paycheck on gambling “hoping“ on winning more to pay them. Geez! If you really want to gamble that bad, pay your bills first and take twenty bucks to the casino, and nothing more. Leave the wallet at home. Yep, there’s a fine example of inheriting the wind and bringing trouble to your house. Their home was full of tension and chaos, brought on by self-inflicted troubles.

11:30-31 - The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise. Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner

. - Oh yeah! Win souls!! J There’s true wealth and riches!

What's in Your Head?

I will get back to posting some more from Proverbs. I haven't been good about that lately. This has been a very odd week. I just can't get motivated.

Maybe I just need a good kick in the pants from someone. LOL I don't know. Someone please wake me up. ;)

Anyways, I promised I would write something good. So, what I will write about is something that came to my mind earlier that I thought I should address.

.............

In High School, I listend to a lot of different kinds of music. At the time, I really didn't know much about Christian music, or the artists. I just listened to what was popular, and the same stuff everyone else did; nothing excessively profane, although my favorite CD was Alanis Morrissette's "Jagged Little Pill." I couldn't get enough of that, for whatever reason.

Anyways, that all changed when I went to church one day, and we had a special speaker. Her name was Jennifer Rambo, and she was talking about Teen Mania Ministries and how it had changed her life. She also talked about giving up secular music.

Personally, I didn't know what she was talking about, because I had never heard that term before. But, as she went on, she talked about how she threw away all of her CDs that weren't Christian music. Her Dad asked her why she would do that. After all, she could have sold them and got money from it. She explained that if it was bad for her to listen to, then why would she want to make money off of it and give it to someone else to listen to and pollute their mind?

She had many valid points, and I talked with her after church. She prayed with me and when I got home, I took a very bold step. I broke and threw away many of my CDs.......the trashiest ones anyways. I didn't totally throw all of them away just then, but sometimes, growth comes in small steps.

Anyways, I threw away a bunch of junk, including some I had just gotten for my birthday that was only a short while before. And, yes, I even broke my Alanis CD. As hard as it was, I knew that after examining the lyrics, agendas, and messages that they were sending, I just couldn't listen to it anymore. I didn't want that stuff shaping who I was. It had to go.

Little by little, I started listening to better music. My mom ordered some Christian tapes with various artists on them, and that is how I got started on good music. (There are always good bands that have the same kind of genre and sound that you are looking for. Look for the Christian alternatives to your favorites. Shatter the stereo-type that Christian music is just a bunch of pipe organs. LOL) Then, we got several CDs from a CD club and my music collection began growing.

Then, came the BIG turning point. Some of my friends and I decided to burn a lot of our CDs one night. I missed out on thier bonfire, but invited them over to watch me burn mine. I took the rest of my "secular" CDs out to the fire pit; to a white round concrete holding area. (Don't know how to describe it). I put all my CDs in there and lit it.

We were all astonished to see what happened before us. The fire just roared and CONSUMED the CDs like nothing I have ever seen and the smoke just billowed and rose to the sky! (Oh yes, the Lord is a consuming fire!). ;) So, my friend commented that he had NEVER seen CDs BURN like that, because they don't typically burn well, or that quickly.

Being that it was night time, we couldn't really see what was left afterwards. So, I was amazed when I went out the next day and saw that there was little to nothing left. Not only that, the white round concrete thing looked like it was all rusted and falling apart. LOL I was just in awe.

I have no doubt that God took that music. And, when he takes, he also gives. I surrendered my dependency on that addicting, destructive "popular" music, and in it's place, God showed me that he BURNED and ERASED the bad stuff in my life. Just as he does when he takes away our sins and gives us a new start.

Ever since then, I have been listening to Christian music. My collection of music is now even more numerous, I believe, than my old collection of junk CDs. Yeah, and I thought that I could never do that since I didn't know many Christian artists. Couldn't imagine throwing all that familiar garbage away to listen to a limited selection of new artists I had become fond of. God sure showed me didn't he? :)

Not all music is "bad" but I would venture to say that a vast majority of it isn't good for us. The messages in songs today talk about sex, drugs, alcohol, violence, and glorify all sorts of immorality. To think that all those messages don't impact you would be foolish. ("What goes into a mind comes out in a life.")It's like my pastor once said, "All music is good, it's the lyrics that are the problem."  I have always remembered that, and not just as it pertains to music. We need to be careful about the stuff we allow our eyes to see, because they bcome part of our heart and mind. TV, music, video games, magazines, etc. all shape who we are and influence our outlook on life, as well as our own behavior and moods.

Think about the messages that you are listening to, and the songs that get "stuck in your head" that you can't help but sing. What songs are truly worth singing/repeating?  I challenge everyone to rethink their media choices. What kind of life and influence do you want to be? Is your choices helping or hindering your impact? Think about it.

I can truly say that throwing away all that music and replacing it with what I listen to now has changed things for me. Listening to music that talks about REAL LOVE (GOD'S LOVE) and encouraging things REALLY makes a difference in how you feel and I want to feel uplifted, encourged, joyful, and full of love. That's something you won't get in mainstream culture.

If you want something more; something truly fulfilling and wonderful, think about what you are putting into your head. Like Jesus said, "If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out..." which is another way of saying, remove the stuff in your life that is keeping you down spiritually, emotionally, physically, whatever. It's not easy, but it can be done. I did! :) God bless all who read this!

I'm Behind

Sorry all. I know I'm behind in posting. I will post something later tonight, and it'll be a good one to make up for the days I have lost. I promise. ;)

Right now, I got to get a few things done around here. I got to get something made for dinner too, before we go see my Grandma. At least, I hope we can still go see her. Mitch is getting off late again. Overtime. Oh well, we need the money this time of year anyways. So many expenses right now, but we'll get through it.

My computer has been on the slow side and was acting up last night. Wouldn't do crap so I couldn't write last night. I don't know what the deal is. One of these days, I need to puchase some more RAM or something. Even though we have DSL this thing is still sluggish, (just like me lately, lol) and nothing I do seems to help, either with me, or the pc. Argh!

Soloman's Wisdom

Awesome words of wisdom! To read it all for yourself, you can visit www.biblegateway.com Here are my notes on Proverbs 10:

Proverbs 10

10:1- The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. - That’s for sure! You don’t want to make your momma cry! ;) Make God, and your parents, proud! Be smart!

10:2-5 - Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death. The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame. - Treasures acquired from ill-gotten gain won’t profit you in the long run; neither in this life, or the life to come. The Lord rewards the righteous. Even if he is poor in this life, he will be rich in the next. But, while we are here, we must make the most of our talents. We must not be lazy. Remember the story of the grasshopper and the ants? Be an ant! Don’t be a lazy grasshopper that is left out in the cold because he refused to prepare in the summer.

10:6-10 - Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot. The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall. He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known. He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall

. - Just like I wrote earlier about flavors. Be a blessing on this world. Be a good flavor and a good memory. Be part of a good legacy that will not be like a black mark on a slate. Be flavorful. Be wise. Watch your tongue so you won’t be a “chattering fool” who puts their foot in their mouth. ;)

10:11-14 - The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked. Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

- A well of life. Who isn’t drawn to such a person? Who wants to be around someone who speaks violence and vile things? I sure don’t! I yearn to have lips of wisdom and understanding. I pray I never end up like the fool.

10:15-19 - The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty. The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin. He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth. He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool. In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

- I like that first verse. Because, even though the wealthy may do whatever it takes to get money, it will be their undoing if they are destroying people’s lives in the process. Are you listening Hollywood billionaires? Labor like a righteous man. Give back to your community and genuinely care about others. Listen to the Lord’s instruction. Ignoring him is foolish. Oh, and we have seen what hidden hatred and lying lips does, haven’t we “Kramer”? Be honest. Don’t hide grudges and hate within your heart. That goes for anyone. And, if you are really sorry, heed that last proverb. Limit your words and choose them carefully. Show you are sorry with action, not words alone.

10:20-22 - The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom. The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

- True wealth is with those who recognize the value of the Lord, which is priceless. True wealth isn’t measure is dollars or “stuff.” True wealth is in the things you cannot touch, and in the things that are yet to come when we get to heaven. J

10:23-26 - It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom. The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

- Those that are wise and trust in the Lord, obviously, will have a fuller life. People who don’t will wander around in their empty lives unhappy and unfulfilled. Who wants to be like that? Who wouldn’t want better than that in this life, and in the life to come?

10:27-32 - The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish. The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth. The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

- Long life to those that fear and trust the Lord! Blessed are they that hope in the Lord. Yes, just as these verses say, the “hope” (expectation) of the wicked will perish. They have nothing to really hope or look forward to, because they are looking for the wrong things to fulfill them. Hoping in the Lord, as a result of living your life for him, will make you more fulfilled. God knows best. He is our heavenly father and he wants us to have a good life just like our parents do. Therefore, he wants to discipline and teach us how to live and behave, so we can avoid unnecessary hurt.

Praise God for Broken Glass and Car Repairs!

Sorry that I am late in posting today. We had to get up early to take our son to the hearing clinic, then shopping, followed by speech therapy. It truly has been a busy day, considering that we had to use my Dad's vehicle. Why you may ask? Well, first of all, the back window broke. We got that fixed on Tuesday. Then, the van itself started acting funny. It's the spark plugs and wires and stuff. Not too bad of a fix, but when you figure in all that labor and diagnostics,........ yeah. But, Dad offered to let that be our "Christmas present" from him. LOL Works for us! We got all we need. The rest are just "wants" so I couldn't really care if we got actual presents. Mitch and I don't really get each other much of anything anymore. After all, we give to each other year round in many ways; including stuff too.

Anyways, I am thankful for broken glass and engine problems. Not all things are good, but they work out FOR good. (Romans 8:28) I'm grateful for that. I'm glad that God allowed these bad things to happen when they did because they happened in the driveway of our home and not on the highway while driving. That glass broke as a result of some kind of chip in it, and it was destined to break at some point. I'm glad it happened sitting in the driveway, and that we and our babies were kept safe.

So, thank you God for letting it happen this way, even though it is a rough time in the year. It always seems to happen in Nov./Dec. It never can wait until tax refund time. LOL Well, at least it wasn't a thousand dollars or more like the last couple years were (which was when we had the Taurus). I guess trading it off for this van still didn't save us from some kind of annual car repair curse! Ha ha.

Oh well, thank God for family..... namely, Daddy! ;) Just know that in all things, God is still good. I'm not bitter, I am glad. I can't even explain how happy I am about it. It could have been so much worse, in so many ways. It could have been more costly, not just in dollars, but in lives. Glass breaking in blowing in while driving would not have been good, neither would having an engine die on a busy road with our two precious babies.

God saved us, once again, from something more dire. I have no doubt. He is always watching out for us. I can just imagine Him saying, "Ok, van, I know you are ready to quit on them, but not just yet. Inevitably you will break down, but you will do it when they are safely home.I will make you last until then." Thank you, Lord, for allowing our car to break down in the safety of home, and not the highway. I praise you in all things, for you are good. Amen.
